Alternative Management Systems to Enhance Surface and
Ground Water Quality of Claypan Soils (USDA-ARS)
Contact: Newell Kitchen, 573.882.1135

The objective of this project is to develop and evaluate precision agriculture methods for improving water quality on claypan soils of northern Missouri.

  • Major focus has been on developing methods for measuring, characterizing, and improving spatially-variable water-related soil and landscape properties that affect production and soil productivity in order to understand the input requirements of crop production.

  • Variable rate herbicide application has been accomplished on a 50 acre field.
