Agronomic Evaluation of Variable-Rate Corn
Seeding on Missouri Soils

Few Missouri growers have adopted the technologies available to implement variable seeding rates. Growers are looking for more information on the benefits of this technology. They would also like information that will assist them in adopting this technology. The objective of this project is to investigate the factors that determine optimum plant populations on Missouri soils.

• Evaluating variable-rate seeding on Missouri claypan and river-bottom alluvial soils.
• Determine optimum plant populations for a given crop year.
• Determine the planter engineering and agronomic factors that have the greatest impact on optimum plant populations.
• Evaluate soil electrical conductivity as a method of sensing soil properties that should have different plant populations.
• Evaluate landform and water-supplying potential using a surveyor-grade GPS system (real-time kinematic GPS).
