Site Information

The Portageville demonstration site is located in Pemiscot County, Missouri, on a continuous cotton field. The dominant crops grown in the area are cash grains including cotton, wheat, soybean, rice, sorghum, and corn. Pemiscot county ranks near the top of all Missouri counties in the production of these crops. The soils in the area were formed in Mississippi River alluvium and are relatively young. Parent material consists of varying amounts of glacial drift, loess, and weathered rock.
