Site Information

Lexington is located in Lafeyette County, Missouri.  The dominant crops grown in the area are soybean, corn, and winter wheat. The Lexington demonstration site is located on a corn field that is in a corn-soybean rotation.  The soils in the area were formed in silty loess from 8 to 90 feet in thickness underlain by limestone, shale, or sandstone bedrock. The association is found mostly in uplands and comprises about 62% of soils in the county.

Marshall-Higginsville association

  • Gently sloping to strongly sloping

Marshall soils

  • Found on ridges and upper part of hillsides

  • Moderately permeable

  • Well drained

  • Surface layer is very dark brown silt loam

Higginsville soils

  •  Found on ridges and hillsides

  • Slowly permeable

  • Somewhat poorly drained

  • Surface layer is black silt loam

  • Subsoil is silty clay loam

  • Subsoil upper layer is dark gray and very dark gray, mottled grayish brown

  • Subsoil middle layer is dark grayish brown, dark yellowish brown and grayish brown

  • Subsoil lower layer is mottle gray and yellowish brown
