Site Information

The Centralia demonstration site is located in Boone County, Missouri, on a corn field that is in a corn-soybean rotation. The dominant crops grown in the area are soybean, corn, wheat, and pasture forage. This area is in the Claypan Major Land Resource area. Claypans are characterized by a distinct boundary between a layer of topsoil that is relatively low in clay and a layer below that has a 20% or greater increase in clay content. The claypan is compact and slowly permeable to air and water. Claypans are usually hard when dry, and plastic and sticky when wet.
