In recent years new computer-based tools, such as GIS, have enhanced the capacity of agricultural producers to more efficiently manage soil spatial variability and maintain geographically-referenced databases. However, there have been limited opportunities for students in the soil science program at the University of Missouri to learn about soil spatial variability and to obtain hands-on experience in new methodologies to assess it. The objectives for this project are: 1) to improve laboratory and field experiences in assessment, analysis, and management of soil spatial variability; and 2) to develop soil science classroom instruction that introduces important concepts of assessment of spatial variability in several soil disciplines including soil classification, soil physics, soil conservation, soil microbiology, and soil nutrient management. |
