Precision agriculture test plots at Hundley-Whaley Research Farm.

Precision agriculture techniques have not received a very broad level of acceptance in the glacial till region of northwest and north-central Missouri. Some producers use combines equipped with yield monitors, but few have invested in GPS technology. There are very few input suppliers with variable-rate fertilizer application equipment.

This project  will evaluate variable-rate lime treatments on 48 acres at the Hundley-Whaley Farm in Gentry County, which is centrally located in the glacial till region. Each September between 750 and 1000 producers attend a field day at the farm. This is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate precision agriculture methods to a large audience in an area where acceptance of these practices has been low.
